Daniel Schäfer's profile

The »VAT duties« project

KÜFFNER MAUNZ LANGER ZUGMAIER is one of the leading law firms in Germany, which specializes in national and European VAT law. KMLZ advises and assists its clients, companies of all sizes from independent enterprises to those listed in Dax30, with their VAT duties worldwide.

KMLZ initiated a project that helps document significant decisions taken by the European Court of Justice using photographs. Daniel Schäfer was chosen to document 9 European Court of Justice’s proceedings by traveling through central Europe to Bolzano, Verona, Siena, Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Würzburg, Rodewisch, Ghent & Amsterdam.

"I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work on this project from the very start by getting to know the Justice’s proceedings and making these cases »visible«. To photograph all different kind of cases and companies, allowed me to work with all my potential in the field of architecture, landscapes, portrait and artistic photography. The final touches given during the printing and framing of the photographs let me complete and visualize this exceptional project."

The final selection of 25 framed photographs is at the head office KMLZ in Munich. Every picture is marked with the case number. All these cases are actually available to read on the world wide web.
